Book project 3

The Help
The central idea of the novel “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett is that skeeters actions changed so many lives of the african american maids of Jackson,Mississippi. In the story, skeeter begins to record the events shared by the maids many of them were not sure of telling her because number one, she is white, and also they did want to be fired or even arrested. This book really connects with some of the other civil rights books we have read because t always starts with an idea, and that leads to a movement. Some questions i developed while reading are, How old do you have to be to start the house cleaning? What were they payed? Why was skeeter so selfless and listened to the african americans even though they were not as “relevant”? Discrepancies i found is that i have read and also heard many books about how poorly white people treated the black people but this gave so much more detail on the little things and really made you feel the pain. The small community really allows you to understand and comprehend what the african-americans really went through. Some of the views and perspectives i found between the characters what Blacks vs whites black, woman vs white woman, skeeter vs whites, skeeter vs elizabeth.

Kaylie agreed and the next morning right away went to go to the library. She just moved to New York and was not sure where everything was. Then she was approached by a man who she didn't know.
"Hey were do you think your going?"
"Oh, uhh to the library to find a tutor... do you know where I can find it?"
"Yes, just take the first left on 5th avenue, I will meet you there."
"Okay thank you sir!"
He took a short cut to the library and disguise him self as a tutor just in time for her to get there.
" Are you the tutor?" Kaylie asked.
"Yes, yes I am." the man lied
"Oh you just look familiar.." She questioned.

My response to the poem, "We breathed you" by Patti Tana. The purpose to this poem is to express a emotion scene of 9/11 to show what people might of been feeling and thinking. The tone of the author is very sad, and hopeless. The author also shows despair and fear. The text shows that it was referencing to 9/11 when it says, "the day you burned you fell you flew through the New York air".
